Kmart says go to Protect My ID’s Kmart site to get your free year of monitoring.
First Target, then Home Depot, and now Kmart…
My family was hit by each of these security breaches (Target last year, Home Depot earlier this year, and now Kmart), we happened to shop at all these places during each of the breaches. I know several people who are considering just carrying cash around from now on, who else is considering this!??!
Kmart released this on their site:
“Beginning in early September, the payment data systems at Kmart stores were purposely infected with a new form of malware (similar to a computer virus). This resulted in debit and credit card numbers being compromised.”
Kmart.com was not affected, only people who shopped in-stores.
They also said “It’s important to note that the policies of the credit card companies state that customers have zero liability for any unauthorized charges if they report them in a timely manner… to further protect our members and customers who shopped with a credit or debit card in our Kmart stores during the month of September through yesterday (Oct. 9, 2014), Kmart will be offering free credit monitoring protection.”
I can’t see any info on how to sign up for the free credit monitoring, and will update this post with that info when they release it.
What do you think should be done to the hackers if they find them?
