UPDATE: Rite Aid Pulls Vanilla Visa From Promo!! Corporate says it was a Misprint??!!

Next week Rite Aid is doing a “Buy & Save” Sale where you will earn a $20 +Up when you spend $100 or more on select products.  Well an AWESOME DEAL has come out of this!  My helper Cuckoo Jen found this deal:

Wow!  This is a cool deal!  Starting 1/1- 1/7 Rite Aid’s ad has a deal where you can buy a Vanilla Visa Gift Card for $100 and you get a $20 +Up!  It costs $6.95 to activate the card so you are actually making $13.05 on this deal! Double check your local ad to make sure they are participating in the deal BEFORE you purchase.  It will look just like the picture above if they are with the little symbol “Buy & Save” on it.

Here’s how it works and all the details:

Buy a $100 Vanilla Visa Card
You could buy smaller increments, but then you have activation fees for each card separately ($25 GC = $4.95 fee, $50 = $5.95 fee)
The card is activated by the cashier at the time of purchase.  Although it does say (in the cardholder agreement) that your funds will be available within 24 hours of purchase people are reporting that they have used it immediately after purchase on their next transaction.
Activiation fee charged will be $6.95
Pay:  $106.95 , Get $20 +UP
Final Price:  $13.05 money maker!!

You have to use have to use cash or a debit card only to buy the Visa Cards.   You cannot use previous +Up rewards to help you buy the card.   The only thing I am not clear on is the limit on how many times if you can do this deal.  No one I saw reported doing it more than once.  Some people say the limit is ONE per wellness card.  So it may be only one $20 +Up reward for the Buy & Save Program.

You can buy the Visa Card, get your $20 +UP reward and immediately use both the +UP and Vanilla Visa card on your next transaction.  $20 +Up will expire on 2/11/12 so you have over a month to use it!

IMPORTANT:  This deal has already started in parts of the county and been tested and is working!

TIP:  Since I normally wouldn’t just buy a $100 Visa Gift card to have on hand I’ll use my grocery money to buy it.  Then I’ll take it when I go grocery shopping to use!  That way I’m not spending extra, but it’s still a money maker!

Thanks for the heads up I Heart Rite Aid!

Can you buy food at Riteaid? Like cereal or eggs? I would have to have a compelling reason to begin this program and use the UP reward in return….

    • Jen

You can use the $100 Vanilla at your regular grocery store after you get it. Then use the $20 +Up as you watch the sales at RA. Rite Aid does some stellar deals on shampoos, medicines, etc.

  • Daniel

Yes, Rite Aid does have food items. but they are generally higher priced than a supermarket. However, Rite Aid runs weekly sales and if you buy food items on sale and combine that with manufacturer coupons you can get some pretty decent deals.

I asked Rite Aid corporate about the limit on Resolution Rewards and they said you can only earn one $20 +UP per household, but what that really means is per Wellness card.

    • Jen

Do you know if that is per week since the Buy & Save promo goes on through the end of the month?

  • Daniel

You can make this an additional one dollar money maker by instead of buying the $100 fixed amount Vanilla Visa gift card, buy the one that is a variable amount in which you can put anywhere from $20 to $500 on it. The activation fee on that one is $4.95 and on the fixed amount gift cards the activation fee is $5.95. But be careful if you buy the variable amount Vanilla Visa gift card remember to buy the one that is GOLD color, with ribbon on the front, vanilla logo on the back. DO NOT buy one that is variable and has silver and black packaging and says “ONE VANILLA” on it because that one will not track nor will you get your +UP. But I have personally tested and can confirm the variable amount Vanilla Visa that is gold in color and has bow on it WILL produce the $20 +UP and only has a $4.95 activation fee making you an extra dollar off this deal.

I am a little confused, I thought this deal starts tomorrow but as shown above someone has already done this?

      • Jen

There are some regional areas that start the sale 2 days early.

    • Jen

Thanks! I’ll try that! What area are you in that you got the deal to work?

Did you show them the ad? It’s right in there. Check your local ad. Maybe they didn’t understand because it’s been tried and ppl are doing it and getting the 20 +UP.

  • Melissa

YMMV on this one. Hubby bought yesterday with no problems, but today a friend was told by store manager & later by Customer Service that it was an advertising error & stores have been instructed to put out signs saying as much.

I bought one today in Pittsburgh, PA, and the +UP didn’t print. I talked to the manager, who checked the ad paper and said it should have worked. He ended up just refunding $20 to the credit card I paid with.
