Are you having problems printing coupons? Sometimes people’s coupons are printing incorrectly, other times they are just printing the new system – Databar Coupons!

Let’s start with Databar Coupons. I have already noticed that at walmart that the databar coupons beep like they are accepted, but don’t take the amount off of your total!  Anyone else noticed this?  Well here’s an explanation of what is up:

The company that produces the bar codes for coupons is called GS1.  They have over the past couple of years been making changes as to how bar codes are on coupons.  They have been putting the “Databar Barcode” on coupons.

As you can see in the image above, you will see that the first UPC barcode is missing and only the second Databar Barcode is there now.  This bar code contains a lot more information that will ultimately make your shopping trip go faster.  These barcodes contain the expiration date, weight of the products accepted, exact products, quantity and any other information that the manufacturer would like to put in the coupon.  (Example: they do not want it to double.)

Unfortunately, there are some retailers that have not updated their scanning equipment.  I think my Walmart is one of them! Retailers have had a couple years to update and most of them have not.  This means that when you go to use one of these coupons, it will beep.

If you are interested in learning more, you can visit the GS1 website and find more information there.

Thanks, Coupon Sense Blog!

So that explains why some coupons are looking different and not get accepted, even if they are legit.

But what about if you print a coupon and there is no barcode at all?

Reader Kim left this tip on my site today:  “I had 2 pages that printed coupons without barcodes. I had to go into my settings, through Tools, to change the compatability setting for it. I added the site on. Then I decided to click the box to have all websites come up with compatability view. I just printed a ton more coupons, including the ones that printed without barcodes, and every one of them turned out fine. Hope this might help you!”

Anyone else having problems with these new coupons?
