Merry Christmas!

I hope you all have a safe, wonderful Christmastime.  I’ll be with my family and not posting hardly at all until Dec. 29th.   I hope you get a break this coming week too.

We’ll still get the weekly deals up on Saturday as normal though.

My favorite part of the beautiful song above, I Heard The Bells on Christmas Day:

And in despair I bowed my head;
“There is no peace on earth,” I said;
“For hate is strong,
And mocks the song
Of peace on earth, good-will to men!”

Then pealed the bells more loud and deep:
“God is not dead, nor doth He sleep;
The Wrong shall fail,
The Right prevail,
With peace on the earth, good-will to men.”

Letters to Sandy Hook Victims

The U.S. Postal Service has established a unique post office box to allow the public to send condolences to those affected by the tragedy in Newtown, Conn., last week. Those who wish to send expressions of comfort should address them to:

Messages of Condolence for Newtown,
P.O. Box 3700,
Newtown, CT 06470.

“We understand that there is an outpouring of support for everyone in the Newtown area and we hope to make it easier for those who wish to send encouragement and messages of compassion to those affected,” Kimberly J. Peters, Connecticut Valley district manager for the U.S. Postal Service, said. “Through letters and cards, families will be able to hold that friendship in their hands and to read those kind words at a time and place that supports their pace of healing.”

I’m sure you’ve seen this on Pinterest or Facebook already, but if not, I had to share because I really love this new poem:

twas’ 11 days before Christmas, around 9:38

when 20 beautiful children stormed through heaven’s gate.
their smiles were contagious, their laughter filled the air.
they could hardly believe all the beauty they saw there.
they were filled with such joy, they didn’t know what to say.

they remembered nothing of what had happened earlier that day.
“where are we?” asked a little girl, as quiet as a mouse.
“this is heaven.” declared a small boy. “we’re spending Christmas at God’s house.”
when what to their wondering eyes did appear,
but Jesus, their savior, the children gathered near.

He looked at them and smiled, and they smiled just the same.
then He opened His arms and He called them by name.
and in that moment was joy, that only heaven can bring
those children all flew into the arms of their King
and as they lingered in the warmth of His embrace,
one small girl turned and looked at Jesus’ face.
and as if He could read all the questions she had
He gently whispered to her, “I’ll take care of mom and dad.”

then He looked down on earth, the world far below
He saw all of the hurt, the sorrow, and woe
then He closed His eyes and He outstretched His hand,
“Let My power and presence re-enter this land!”
“may this country be delivered from the hands of fools”
“I’m taking back my nation. I’m taking back my schools!”
then He and the children stood up without a sound.
“come now my children, let me show you around.”
excitement filled the space, some skipped and some ran.
all displaying enthusiasm that only a small child can.
and i heard Him proclaim as He walked out of sight,
“in the midst of this darkness, I AM STILL THE LIGHT.”

After you read this report, you might be crying too. Reports show 27 dead, 18 innocent children, in the elementary school shooting this morning.  That is right folks, elementary school.

Please pray for those that were hit and haven’t died yet, that they can make it.  And pray for the parents who lost their precious kids. I can’t imagine what the parents are going through right now.

First, I know a lot of people won’t be able to trick-or-treat this Halloween due to Hurricane Sandy, and our prayers are with them so that they can recover quickly from the devastation.

Just thought I’d share our family’s Halloween picture this year.  We took it last Saturday at our church’s Trunk or Treat Halloween Party – where everyone gets together and decorates their car trunks scarily (is that a word?) and kids go around the church parking lot getting candy.   There’s also games and activities.   We love the annual Halloween Party because it is not on Halloween – that way my kids get to trick-or-treat twice and dress up twice.  Once at the party, once on the “real” Halloween.

I am kinda a dork.  I have been sitting here for 5 minutes wondering if I need to say what each person was in the pic or if it is obvious.  :/

What traditions do you have for Halloween?  Are your kids able to go this year or did Sandy ruin it for you?

P.S: I think about 50% of the girls at the party were Cinderella this year.  I didn’t see any of the girl from Brave or Rapunzel.  Thought that was interesting.

Here’s a great way to give $25 to someone in need – and you do not have to enter your credit card info!

Kiva lets individuals lend as little as $25 to help create opportunity around the world. You make a loan on Kiva to an individual who is trying to start up a small business.  Perhaps someone who needs money for seeds to start a farm.  You will be able to choose who and for what the loan is for. Throughout the life of the loan, you will see progress updates from Kiva through your email, and if you come back to the site. As the borrower repays the loan, the money becomes available in your account. This is called your Kiva Credit. You can now use it to fund another loan, donate it to Kiva, or withdraw it to spend on something else.

Detailed instructions on how to get started:

Head on over to sign up for and click on “About”, then click on “find a borrower”.  Then you can select any borrower, or browse by country.  I picked Honduras because my 20 year old brother is a missionary in Honduras and we might go visit Honduras after his mission is over, and have him show us around. The loan won’t go to to my brother, because LDS missionaries pay for their own missions, but I just wanted to pick Honduras because I have that small connection with the country, by my brother being there and I might go there someday. My brother writes me weekly to tell me of the Honduran peoples’ faith and good works, so I would love to help one of them!  In the area he is at, most people have dirt floors and he says they are generous, loving and great people.

But I am sure there are amazing people everywhere who could use this free loan.  So…

Leave a comment below with which country you picked to loan to someone & why!

Once you pick someone and like what their business loan is for, click on “loan now”.  Then login via facebook or fill out your username info.  You will not have to give any credit card info.  Super easy – but hurry! There are only 38,000 of the free $25 credits to give away.

After you sign up, you can refer friends and family so they will earn a FREE $25 credit  & you’ll also earn a FREE $25 credit each time someone registers through your referral link.  As always on my site, you are free to post your referral links in the comments section below.

Side note: Since I mentioned my brother, I thought I’d share with you a fun picture he sent me this summer.  That is him baptizing a women in Honduras in the picture.

I just read this article and was really surprised.  Pine-sol Original won!

1.  Simple Green is my fav, and they didn’t test it!

2.  Vinegar and baking soda should have been tested too!

What do you think is the best cleaner?
