For everyone who has served, is serving, and sacrificed for our country, thank you.   A special thanks to my Grandfather who served in the Navy.  Another special thanks to my helper Jen’s husband, who served in Korea.

I’ll be posting less today as I will be with my family.  I hope you are able to log-off and spend time with your families as well.

My downloadable PDF Stock Up Price Points List has been completely updated for 2012.  I just added all of the following information to it, so you may want to re-print it if you haven’t already and put it in your binders.  This way when you see an unadvertised deal you know if it is a good deal or not.  These prices do vary slightly by region, but most of the USA is the same for things like Razors, so this is a great guide to get you started.

Some items on the list were increased from the 2011 prices due to tightening of coupon policies, higher food prices, lower coupon values, and less great BOGO free sales in general.  Last year I didn’t have a great Pet section, as you can see below I have dramatically increased it with help to reader Dawn.

This is part of my ABC’s of Couponing series.

I just saw this Hot Dog Toaster on Amazon and loved it.   I didn’t buy it, but I did pin it on Pinterest.  It would go great with a side of Bush’s Baked Beans

And just this morning my husband had to talk me out of ordering in-door banana trees.  I just saw them and thought, YES! I need to grow some banana trees inside my house, and for $16 shipped that is pretty great!  And my husband said “not happening”.

This is why I don’t watch late night infomercials or QVC.  I see things and think… MUST HAVE IT NOW!! Then my husband talks me out of getting it, and in two days I forget about it.  Impulse buys are where I think a lot of people lose money each year, and so what I do is I say to myself, “okay I will look for a sale to get it for Christmas.”  Then if I forget about it, then it wasn’t something I really needed anyways.   I rarely make impulse purchases.  It’s not easy, but I am spending so much time couponing to save money, it seems all a waste if I go and take the savings and use them on things I don’t need.

My husband and I are trying to save up to go see his family in Orlando, Florida next year, so every little bit helps.   It’s not always easy, but I know when I am not buying something I am saving money for that fun family trip.   So I stick to necessities and my price points.

What about you?

Do you make impulse buys or do you have a special thing you are saving up money for?

Just a reminder that the American Idol final sing-off is tonight instead of Wednesday!  Who do you want to win?  Or are you anti-AI and don’t care like my hubby?

I actually liked Elise, mostly because she sang Led Zeppelin and no one ever sings them on that show.  But she got kicked off.   Anyways, I have to be honest, I watch the show and then I don’t vote.  I haven’t ever actually voted.  Am I the only one?

Two JcPenny coupons I got in one week last year, sigh!

I was hoping it wouldn’t go this way, because I used to love JCPenny’s, but it appears that JCpenny lost $55 million since they started their new no-coupons strategy.

Funny thing is, the article’s title is “J.C. Penney’s Sales Plummet: How Couponing Moms Cost The Store $55 Million”.  After you read the article, don’t you think that title is misleading?  I mean it sounds like the CEO made some bad decisions, and that is why they lost money; they were making more money when the couponers were still shopping there!   Let me know what you think after you’ve read it.   I haven’t been in a JcPenny since they started their new strategy, because I used to love to go in when I had a coupon, so I don’t know what it is like anymore.

There’s a new movie coming out I can’t wait to see, but first, let me tell you the fun news! I am 39 weeks along and very swollen and having random pains/contractions, so I have been scheduled to be induced tomorrow morning!  I will have some helpers finding deals on the blog, but I will be MIA for a few days.  I’ll be sure to update you on how everything goes of course.

Speaking of babies, Carter’s, who make cute children’s clothing, is featured in the movie What to Expect When You’re Expecting, due in theaters May 18! To celebrate the launch of this movie, Carter’s is hosting “A Closet Full of Carter’s Sweepstakes” on Facebook and giving away over $12,000 in prizes. Increase your chances to win the $5,000 Carter’s gift card grand prize or one of the many other giveaways by entering every day on Facebook at  Carter’s page or on your mobile device (scroll down the page to see the link for mobile devices) and you can enter from April 16 until May 18. No Purchase Necessary to Enter or Win. Complete Official Rules available at Carters facebook page.

No Purchase Necessary to Enter or Win. A purchase will not increase your chances of winning. Void where prohibited by law. Participants must be 18 years of age or older as of the date of entry. Promotion begins April 16, 2012 at 12:00:01 a.m. ET and ends May 18, 2012 at 11:59:59 p.m. ET. Limit one (1) entry per person, per day. Complete Official Rules available at www.facebook.com/carters. Sponsor: The William Carter Company (the “Sponsor”), 1170 Peachtree Street NE, Suite 900, Atlanta, GA 30309. Facebook is not a Sponsor of this Sweepstakes.

Carter’s partnered with bloggers such as me to promote their upcoming feature in the movie “What to Expect When You’re Expecting.”  As part of the program, I received product or gift cards. Carter’s believes that consumers and bloggers are free to form their own opinions and share them in their own words, and therefore did not tell me what to purchase or what to say about the products I used.  Carter’s policies align with WOMMA Ethics Code, FTC guidelines and social media engagement recommendations.

For some reason the quote above just about made me cry.

Don’t know what Pinterest is?  It is a fun site where you “pin” items, and it shows a lot of fun crafty ideas, recipes, and clever sayings all over your home page.   It’s not like Facebook at all, there are no statuses, just pictures all over your home page.  You can follow me too!

Something weird happened to my helper Jen!  She got what looked like a bill from Family Fun Magazine after I posted the free 1 year subscription last week.  Here’s what she said

“Well today I got a bill and it said it was $5 for 10 issues….no phone number to call or anything.  Finally after looking at it FOREVER it is saying that I can ADD 10 issues to the ones I already have (1 year FREE) for $5.  Of course this means I just throw the bill away. ”

So basically, it is not a bill, it is a way to add to your free one year subscription.  So just beware of that!
