I just used my coupon for buy 1 tree get 1 free at Home Depot (click on "join garden club") for a pear tree and a peach tree. $25 total after taxes! They had some great looking, tall fruit trees at my store.
I also wanted to show in the picture the mulch we bought on the buy1 get 1 free sale last week. Of course we installed it ourselves, not hiring a landscaper saved us even more.
Waiting to do yard work when the sales are right has saved us so much money:
Last year, we bought the rest of our trees at the end of fall and the nursery's were closing for the winter so we could get huge discounts. We got a willow tree, a granny smith apple tree, lots of shrubs and bushes 50% off, and two dwarf blue spruces we got for 80% off. These two fruit trees were the last trees we needed for our yard.
We are raking the dirt yard all week so we can seed it next week. We are saving another $1,000 by seeding instead of doing sod.
We also saved $1,500 by installing our sprinklers entirely ourselves.
In total, my neighbors (who wish to remain anonymous) with a similar 1/4 acre yard just spent 75% more getting it done then we did, because they hired a landscaper. I just wanted to let you know that doing it yourself vs. hiring landscapers is definitely the cheapest option.
