Dollar Tree has changed a few things in its policy, specifically, now they will take coupons that are over the $1 amount! They will adjust them down so you won’t get overage, but it is better than them not taking them at all. Also, note that it only limits you to 2 internet coupons per day, not 2 coupons overall. You might want to print this out to take to your store.

Here’s the direct link to the official Dollar Tree 2013 coupon policy.

COUPON ACCEPTANCE POLICY

Manufacturer Coupons

  • We accept Manufacturer Coupons only, no retailer specific coupons; example Target, Wal-Mart, etc.
  • We do not accept photocopies of coupons. Coupons must be intact, not altered or modified in any way.
  • Coupons can only be used in stores, must be presented at time of purchase and cannot be redeemed for cash at a later time.
  • Item purchased must match the coupon description (brand, size, quantity, color, etc.) and be presented prior to the expiration date printed on the coupon.
  • We accept only 1 Manufacturer Coupon per single item purchased.
  • We accept coupons for over a dollar on a single item. The coupon value will be reduced to the purchase price of the item.
  • We cannot give cash back if the face value of a coupon is greater than the purchase price of the item.
  • Coupons for free items are only accepted if a purchase is required to get one free (for example, Buy One Get One Free offers).
  • Any applicable sales tax must be paid by consumer.
  • We reserve the right to accept, refuse or limit the use of any coupon.
  • This policy is subject to all local, state and federal laws and regulations where applicable.
  • These guidelines apply to all coupons accepted at Dollar Tree (Manufacturer and Internet Coupons).

Internet Coupons

  • We accept up to two (2) Internet Coupons per household per day.
  • Internet Coupons must be a “Manufacturer Coupon”, have a valid expiration date and a valid remit address for the manufacturer.
  • We do not accept Internet Coupons for “Free” items with no purchase requirements.
  • Duplicated (photocopies) Internet Coupons will not be accepted. Each Internet Coupon must have a different serial number.

    Do you get the overage?

  • raquel

my dollar tree, says 4 coupons per day ! their policy states 4 LIKE coupons per day per household.. shouldn’t I be able to use more than 4 per day as long as they are not a like ?

    • yes, did you talk to a manager?

  • Christy

My dollar tree said 3 coupons per customer. I told them about the coupon policy and they said that was their policy for their store. And if the coupon matches and doesn’t scan they won’t manually input it. Never going to dollar tree again.

  • amanda

Dollar tree refused to accept my coupons because the wouldn’t scan, think I’m done with dollar tree . Ugh makes me so mad. Does anyone else have trouble with coupons from red plum, mine never scan.

    • Angela Oates

They can manually type them in, it seems some just either can’t be bothered or are poorly trained. Either way it’s not good business.

Their policy reads, Coupons for free items are only accepted if a purchase is required to get one free (for example, Buy One Get One Free offers). This sounds like to me you are required to purchase the item if you are to use the coupon to get one free.

  • Sharon Jones

The coupons I clicked on don’t say buy one get one free. So do you have to buy something to get free products?

    • HelperJen

      Which coupon?

  • griselda

So I could use 4 like coupons for a certain item, an use 4 other coupons for different item?

    • HelperJen

You can use one coupon per item. You can buy 4 items and use 4 coupons. Is that what you are asking?

My store flat out refused to accept coupons. I asked the cashier, “Oh, yeah? When did y’all start that?” She tells me, “It’s been, let’s seeeee, I guess a couple ‘munts’ ago.” Well I hadn’t been keeping up with the tree lately. It’s my fault for embarking on an impromptu dollar tree spree with such ignorance. I will not be wrong in any CHECKOUT CHALLENGE, and she COULD be right. I left. I saw the right to refuse part of policy, but I really wanted to know if a store can refuse copons store wide or just refuse by each person. What’s the facts here? Has anyone else been through anything similar?

    • Jen

It is up to each store manager what their store will take – sorry.

      • Angela Oates

I don’t understand the point of a Dollar tree coupon policy if the manager of each individual store gets to randomly decide what their policy is. Either stick to the policy or don’t bother having one at all. It’s beyond irritating to have a coupon accepted in one store and then denied in another on the whim of the manager.

        • Jen

          I totally agree.

I recently had a Dollar Tree (here in South Jersey) refuse to accept a coupon for Buy 2 Jose Ole Burritos and get 1 Free. Another coupon I had a problem with at another Dollar Tree was a $.50 coupon off 3 boxes of Scotties tissues. They had bonus boxes of 160 instead of 120 tissues. The cashier couldn’t get the coupon to scan, she called someone over to the register ( I assume she was a manager) but she couldn’t figure it out either. Then she had to make a phone call and explain to someone that the coupon was off 3 boxes and that I was purchasing 3 boxes and the only difference was that the boxes were bonus boxes. She finally took the coupon off manually. I was really embarrassed because the lady behind me had let me go ahead of her because I only had 4 items. The other item I was purchasing also created a bit of a problem for this cashier because it was a Dollar Tree gift card I was purchasing and she thought I was using it to pay for my purchase and she immediately said “oh, I always have a problem with these.” I had handed it to her so that I could tell her how much to put on the card.

“Two internet coupon per household per day” what does that mean? Two coupons that I printed on the internet per day only?

    • Allie’s_Awesome_Deals

      yes

      • Mandy Tsang

        Thank you :)

    • Jen

      Yes.

  • Michelle

Policy at my particular store was 4 coupons per item, which was posted on the back of the door. Was told it was 2 coupons total per household. Manager could not find a current policy. Training personel was going by policy from 2013. Manager finally showed me a policy from 2012. No one knew the number to corp. And forget trying to get a hold of anyone at corp.
